Beautiful excursion to the lake Mitter See, near Carezza. The Mitter See is less known than Lake Carezza and can be reached on foot in 10 minutes from Lake Carezza. This lake starts to fill up in mid-May. When the melting of the snow and the rains become rarer, the lake starts to dry up, losing the water completely towards the end of July. From August instead of the lake you will find a beautiful meadow in the clearing. The lake reaches a maximum depth of 2,5 m on a hectare of land. Although the water temperature never exceeds 13°C, it is a destination for visitors in search of peace and quiet. There are rafts made by hand to cross the lake.
The hike to the Mitter See near Lake Carezza is also beautiful in autumn. It may be, that the Mitter See fills up again after heavy rains and autumn storms. According to legend, a girl in collecting leaves for cattle, was surprised by the water and shipwrecked. In fact, the Mitter See can fill up completely between 3 days and 2 weeks. On the south bank you can see the springs that rise under the lawn. The hike to the lake Mitter See near Lake Carezza can be reached on foot by following the path from the hotel ADLER Carezza on 10/A, then 11 and 12 for about 1:30 climbing up 280m. On the way back, follow path 12 to Simhild and then path 8/B to Hotel ADLER Carezza. On the way back, travel 2,7 km and approx. 1:10 hrs.
