A scenic hike to the Sissi monument, already Empress Elisabeth of Austria and Queen of Hungary used during here vacation in Carezza. Since her walk on this trail, this path has become the “Sissi” promenade.
To reach the monument of Empress Sissi from Hotel ADLER Carezza follow path 7. The first 500m will climb 150m in altitude, and take about 30 minutes. Continue on path 6, which continues on a flat and paved surface, opening some beautiful panoramic views onto the Latemar, the Corno Nero and the Corno Bianco, and part of Nova Levante. After about 1km and 20 minutes walk follow path 3 for about 400m to reach the monument of Empress Sissi.
Sissi, Empress Elisabeth of Austria and Queen of Hungary
The Empress Sissi (1837 – 1898), spent a regenerating holiday in Carezza during August 1897. She suffered from anorexia and melancholy and often faced long walks in the company of her mountain guide Georg Huck. On August 18, the Emperor’s birthday was celebrated with a grand party in the halls of the Grand Hotel Carezza, where the empress lived; it was a social and patriotic event.
On 24 August 1897 she undertook the walk to present-days “Elisabeth promenade”. In 1907, ten years after the visit of her majesty, the tourist association of Nova Levante erected a monument dedicated to Sissi, the Empress Elisabeth of Austria and Queen of Hungary.
From the monument of Empress Sissi flollow path 3 back for 400m until you reach again intersection with trail 6. Take a left turn and follow signs towards Heinzen Alm for about 2km or 40 minutes. At the hut enjoy the beautiful view onto the Dolomites of Rosengarten|Catinaccio, Latemar, the Corno Nero, the Corno Bianco and the Sciliar|Schlern.
From the hut take path 16 towards Moseralm and continue down path 9 to Hotel ADLER Carezza. From Heinzen Alm the return is about 4km and 90 minutes to descend.
